Thrifting For Fall Fashion 2020!

With stores like H&M and forever 21 mass producing fashionable items, keeping up with the trends seems impossible; not to mention, super expensive. People are spending way too much money and time trying to build a wardrobe with low-quality pieces that need to be replaced frequently. Items that when produced, pollute our environment and water supply. After becoming aware of how big corporations are manufacturing their clothing, I began to find a way to stop contributing to the problem. I didn’t want to buy really expensive pieces, but I wanted to replace affordable quantity with affordable quality, and that is when the thrifting started. I know when you hear the word thrift store you smell grandma’s house, but oh how times have changed. Plato’s closet and Uptown Cheapskate are thrift stores. Yeah I said it, thrift stores! With really cute and affordable name brand clothing. Just cause its second-hand it’s $30 cheaper, I'll take it! Nothing a little Seven Generation can’t fix.

I know you’re asking where to start and how to find quality pieces, and I have a few tips and tricks to help you along the way.

  • When thrifting for quality fashion, look for things made from natural fibers like cotton, wool, linen, silk, and casmer. Metal zippers and buttons are always a plus.

  • Make sure your seams are well cut and stitched.

  • Stay away from things that aren't  practical or that you’ll only wear once.

  • Keep an eye out for brands that are trying to be more sustainable by using recycled materials, these items are a double win!

Sticking to this will help you to build a timeless wardrobe that will last for years!

Now some of my favorite fall fashion staples are, corduroy skirts and pants, deinum jackets and flare legs, cotton turtle and v neck sweaters, linen dresses, oversized blazers and cardigans, booties, knee-high boots, felt hats, thin belts, simple jewelry, and a messenger bag. These items can be worn individually or layered or layered for more warmth!

  2. Saves you a ton of money.

  3. Get to give something old a new life!
